Coabis System Requirements

The following are the minimum hardware and software requirements to run Coabis 10.1. Other applications to be used on the same PCs (e.g. Microsoft Office) may have additional requirements.

If you require Coabis Support to install and configure Coabis in the UK, we require at least 3 working days notice.

Network Servers

Pentium II (400MHz) minimum, Pentium III (500MHz) recommended.
Oracle 8.1.7.1 or higher (Standard or Enterprise Editions), including Oracle 9i and 10g.
Oracle-supported operating platform.
Server hardware requirements as per Oracle recommendations, though a minimum of 512MB RAM is required, 1GB recommended.
10GB hard disk.

Networked Workstations

Pentium II (400MHz) minimum, Pentium III (500MHz) recommended.
256MB RAM minimum, 512MB recommended.
Windows 2000, XP or Vista (Coabis 10.1 and higher is Vista-compatible).
XGA 1024x768 resolution monitor, with Small Fonts setting enabled in Windows.
Oracle client installed and SQL*Net configured.

Stand-alone & notebook PCs

Pentium III (500MHz) minimum.
Windows 2000, XP or Vista (Coabis 10.1 and higher is Vista-compatible).
512MB RAM minimum.
Personal Oracle for Windows 8.1.7 or higher.
CD-ROM drive.
XGA 1024x768 resolution monitor, with Small Fonts setting enabled in Windows.
10GB hard disk.

Oracle

Oracle 8.1.7.1 or higher, including Oracle 9i and 10g (Personal, Standard or Enterprise Editions).

Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i databases are not supported by Oracle with Windows Vista.

– Coabis 9: Oracle client versions 8.1.7.3 and 8.1.7.4 are compatible with Coabis 9, provided you install an updated BDE DLL, supplied on the Coabis 9 installation CD.

– Coabis 10: does not require BDE.

Windows Vista

Coabis 10.1 and higher is Vista-compatible.

Coabis 10.0.6 and older is not fully Vista-compatible.

Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i databases running on Windows Vista are not supported by Oracle.

Coabis should not be used with Windows Vista unless the Client master database has been upgraded to Oracle 10.2.0.3.

Third-party service providers are strongly recommended to consult both their Client and Coabis Support prior to providing PCs with Windows Vista for use with Coabis. If in doubt, Windows 2000 or Windows XP should be provided.

Digital Video Encoding

There are several options for encoding digital video. For the purposes of video playback, particularly on corporate networks, Aker recommend that digital video be encoded using MPEG1 or MPEG2 formats.

Note: We strongly recommend that you consult your IT Department before choosing a digital video format, in order to ensure that you will be able to playback the video.

Coabis-NETmc DVRi Digital Video Requirements

Stand-alone workstations using the NETmc digital video encoder interface require a network card and a crossover cable or hub.

Networked workstations using the NETmc digital video interface require a standard network connection.

To use the Coabis-NETmc digital video interface, you require NETmc Marine DVR Inspector hardware, and a storage medium (DVD, network attached storage device, etc.). Please contact NETmc for advice in this matter.

Coabis-VisualWorks Digital Video Requirements

The Coabis 10.1 interface with VisualWorks has been tested and verified using VisualWorks version 7.2.2. Aker do not accept responsibility for using this interface with different versions of VisualWorks.

Stand-alone workstations using the VisualSoft digital video encoder interface require a network card and a crossover cable or hub.

Networked workstations using the VisualSoft digital video interface require a standard network connection.

The correct version of VWControl.DLL must be present on the VisualSoft workstation along with the other VisualSoft application files. The correct VWControl.DLL is supplied with Coabis 9.2 and Coabis 10.

To use the Coabis-VisualWorks digital video interface, you require VisualWorks digital video encoding software and a storage medium (DVD, network attached storage device, etc.). Please contact VisualSoft for advice in this matter.

Coabis VCR Control Requirements

VCR control functions with Panasonic AG-5700 and Panasonic AG-7350 (with IA-232TC serial port interface installed) VCRs. Panasonic AG-7350 models are available for PAL and NTSC video formats.

Coabis Video Overlay Requirements

NETmc DVRi with video overlay is compatible with Coabis 9 and higher.

Alternatively, 1 x Oceantools VO-1W or VO-4W video overlay unit for each PC requiring the video overlay functionality. Interconnecting cables for the Oceantools to the VCR must be S-Video or composite (BNC-to-BNC) depending upon the connection method employed. To use this unit with VCR control, the Coabis workstation requires 2 serial (RS232) ports.

Microsoft Excel
Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.).
Video player (Windows Media Player, etc.) with appropriate video codec.
Drawing or image viewing application.

Windows Requirements

Installation of latest operating system patches to ensure all Windows DLL, OCX, etc. files are up-to-date.
Read Access to the following Windows registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software\Oracle

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

.DOC; .XLS; .DWG; Voloview.document. This reads the shell execute path, to which read-only access is also required - e.g.Word.Document.8\shell\command.

Full Control of the following Windows registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software\Aker Maritime

Power Supply

When using Coabis on an offshore platform, a vessel, or any location with a potential for fluctuations in mains power, it is recommended that, where regulations allow, the computer equipment and video units are connected to a surge protector and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
