Case Study: Transactions

In order to transfer workpack data between sites, Coabis comes with its unique Transactions module. The Transactions module enable users to send data to and from onshore and offshore locations, with no loss of data integrity. The Transactions also enable Clients to work with several sites (or vessels) simultaneously. For example, Shell often work with 2 or 3 DSVs and ROVSVs concurrently at separate locations – the Coabis Transactions module allows them this flexibility.

The Coabis Transactions are used to send data from remote vessels to their onshore offices regularly, even every 24 hours. This ensures that the onshore office, despite being disconnected from the various vessel servers, is never more than 24 hours behind what is happening offshore.

In the event that a serious anomaly is discovered, a Transaction can be sent onshore within minutes of the anomaly being found.

Coabis data is transacted between locations using several methods, dependent upon the amount of data being transferred –e-mail, CD and disk being the most popular options. All Coabis data is transacted – results, anomalies, photographs, video clips, drawings, etc.

The Transactions are a unique function to Coabis. Many of our Clients were heavily involved with the development of Transactions, based on their intensive use of the feature, particularly where they have multiple vessels using Coabis simultaneously.

Should Coabis be run over a Wide Area Network (WAN), the requirement for Transactions becomes less important. In this scenario, data entered over the WAN is immediately available to all parties also connected to the WAN. This configuration is used by Talisman Energy for their topsides structural data-entry, making Coabis available to offshore personnel via a Citrix application farm.
